By The Douginator

When many people hear the word "socialist", words like "communist" and "red scare" come to mind. History books teach us about the Cold War and remind us of a time were the worst thing you could be called was a communist or a socialist. Socialist Party's Brian Moore wants to change all of that. Along with Vice Presidential nominee Stewart Alexander, Moore is running for the Oval Office in 2008. Brian Moore's concerns include ending the war in Iraq, establishing a national health care system, and initiating a guaranteed income for all American families. Mr. Moore's message could be best summed up by this Eugene Debs quote:

"Now my friends, I am opposed to the system of society in which we live today, not because I lack the natural equipment to do for myself but because I am not satisfied to make myself comfortable knowing that there are thousands of my fellow men who suffer for the barest necessities of life."

A Press Release From Brian Moore's Recent Trip To Vermont

Spring Hill, Florida, Monday, January 7, 2008, — Socialist Party USA Presidential Nominee Brian Moore was threatened with arrest Sunday afternoon by Brattleboro (Vermont) Police officers for petitioning in a supermarket parking lot to qualify on the presidential primary ballot of the Liberty Union Party of  Vermont.  The primary is scheduled for March 5th.

The manager of Hannaford Supermarkets in Brattleboro repeatedly ordered Moore, in a hostile voice, to leave the large mall parking lot because it was private property and owned by the store.  Moore and his three colleagues stood their ground and refused to leave claiming they had a constitutional right to participate in a democratic process in a public area so that he could be a qualified presidential candidate in Vermont.

Two City of Brattleboro police cars, containing a lieutenant and a Sergeant Mike Gorman, arrived on the scene within minutes and ordered Moore and three of his petition colleagues "to leave or they would get a trespassing order, and would arrest us if necessary," Moore stated.  Peter Diamondstone, an attorney and a leader of the Liberty Union Party in Vermont, and one of Moore's colleagues doing the petitioning, informed the officers that they had a constitutional right for such actions.

The officers decided to telephone State Attorney Dan Davis's office to determine the proper procedure.  The petitioners, at Moore's request, were allowed to continue seeking signatures while the police and store manager waited for the chief law enforcement office of Vermont to make a decision.  A last minute return call from the State Attorney Dan Davis's office saved the day for the Socialist Presidential candidate and his team.  The petitioners continued on and finished the weekend with close to 500 signatures---halfway toward their goal of 1,000 signatures of Vermont voters, which is due Monday, January 21st, 2008,  in the Vermont Secretary of State's Office.

Many of the shoppers Moore spoke with in the parking lot were from New Hampshire, several miles away, and thus could not sign his petition.  Democratic and Republican presidential candidates were campaigning simultaneously as the Moore group petitioned, as close as 7 miles away, in the Town of Moreland, New Hampshire, and Keene, NH, which is 14 miles from Brattleboro.  Moore observed "How ironic that these close by major party candidates are campaigning effortlessly, while minor party candidates face obstruction after obstruction, in many states, just to gain ballot access."  Moore hopes to gain access to 20 state ballots for the November General election.  Moore says "Our political system is undemocratic and unfair, and biased in favor of the status quo and a two-party system."

The Douginator:What issue, other than the Iraq War, is of the greatest importance to our nation?

MOORE:  PERSONAL FREEDOMS AND PRIVACY RIGHTS. ACTUALLY, THE THREAT TO THESE IS OF GREATER CONCERN TO ME THAN THE WAR. IF WE DO NOT HAVE FREEDOMS, WE CANNOT DISSENT AGAINST THE WAR, SPEAK OUT AGAINST IT, ETC.

The Douginator: If you become President you plan to have free elections. How would you work with a Democratic or Republican Congress? Would your Socialist platform ideas fly with the two big political parties?

MOORE: FREE ELECTIONS... IS THAT A QUESTION OR A STATEMENT? WEIRD!! WHY WOULD WE NOT HAVE FREE ELECTIONS? IT IS ONLY THE CAPITALIST WHO ARE THE FACISTS. SOCIALISM IS PURE DEMOCRACY, AND MUCH PURER THAN CAPITALISM. I WOULD NOT WORK WITH THE CONGRESS VERY WELL. IF I WAS ELECTED, I WOULD OBVIOUSLY BE GIVEN A MANDATE BY THE PEOPLE FOR RADICAL REFORM. IF THEY DID NOT GO ALONG WITH IT, THEN THEY WOULD HAVE TO SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES THAT A LEADER CAN SPEAK OUT ON WITH REGARD TO MORAL LEADERSHIP.

The Douginator: Socialist tends to have a negative connation. How do you think that happened and why is Socialism a better alternative?

MOORE: TRUE. IT HAPPENED BECAUSE OF THE SEDITION ACT OF 1918, AG PALMER AND J. EDGAR HOOVER'S POLICIES IN THE 1920'S, STALINISM, MCCARTHYISM, THE COLD WAR, ETC. SOCIALISM IS A PURER FORM OF DEMOCRACY AND ACTUALLY PRACTICES WHAT IT PREACHES. NOT LIKE CAPITALISM, WHICH DOES NOT REALLY PRACTICE IT. IN FACT, WE SET UP FASCISTS, PAY OFF RIGHT WING TERRORIST GROUPS, KILL DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED POLITICIANS (I.E. SALVADOR ALLENDE OF CHILE, DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED SOCIALIST). SOCIALIMS IS MORE HUMANE, EGALITARIAN AND BASED ON DECISION-MAKING FROM THE BOTTOM UP, NOT THE TOP DOWN, AS IN CAPITALISM.

CAPITALISM IS BASED ON GREED, EXPLOITATION OF THE MASSES, AND A BLIND IRRATIONALITY IN THE FREE MARKET PHILOSOPHY. POWER AND WEALTH ARE INHERITED BY A SMALL PERCENTAGE OF PEOPLE UNDER CAPITALISM, AND WE SEE A WIDENING GAP BETWEEN THE RICH AND THE POOR OCCURING TODAY. SOCIALISM IS BASED ON GIVING THE MASSES AN EQUAL SHARE AND OPPORTUNITY TO MAXIMIZE THEIR SKILLS, AND HAVE A QUALITY OF LIFE. FREE HEALTH CARE, FULL EMPLOYMENT, FREE EDUCATION, HOUSING AND A GUARANTEED ANNUAL INCOME IS ESSENTIAL TO SHARING AND DISTRIBUTING THE WEALTH AND POWER. SOCIALISTS PRESERVE THE IDEAL, WHAT IS GOOD, AND GOES AFTER IT BETTER EVENTHOUGH IT CAN NEVER BE ACHIEVED PERFECTLY.

The Douginator:Our site has a lot of humor on it...or so we think. Got any funny jokes?

MOORE:  I AM TERRIBLE AT REMEMBERING JOKES, BUT I AM A GREAT LISTENER, AND LAUGH LIKE HELL AT A GOOD JOKE. SOME OF MY FRIENDS ARE OVERWEIGHT GUYS WHO ALWAYS SEEMS TO SPIN A YARN AND A JOKE. MY GRANDFATHER FROM IRELAND WAS LIKE THAT, BUT I NEVER COULD IMITATE HIM.

The Douginator:It is popular belief that the nation's middle class is disappearing. Your campaign seems to really speak to them. What does this campaign have to offer someone with a great deal of wealth? Will they ever be able to support you?

MOORE: SOCIALISM BELIEVES IN A CLASSLESS SOCIETY, SO WE DON'T EVEN BELIEVE IN FIGHTING FOR THE MIDDLE CLASS. WE WANT TO FIGHT FOR EVERYONE, AND FOR ALL TO EQUALLY SHARE IN THE WEALTH AND POWER. NO, MY CAMPAIGN SHOULD NOT BE SPEAKING TO THEM. IT SHOULD BE SPEAKING TO THE POOR, THE HUDDLED MASSES, THE DEPRIVED, THE HOMELESS, THE SICK, THE INDIGENT, ETC. BUT SINCE THE MIDDLE CLASS IS BEING KILLED BY THE SMALL PERCENTAGES OF WEALTH INHERITORS, THEN WE CAN BENEFIT THEM AS WELL.

The Douginator: Castro... €bad guy or misunderstood?

MOORE: GREAT GUY, MORAL LEADER, VISIONARY, COURAGEOUS, STRONG

The Douginator: Which socialist has inspired you the most?

MOORE: JESUS CHRIST, HARRY BRIDGES, ST. FRANCIS

The Douginator: If you had to vote for a mainstream candidate, who would it be and why?

MOORE: KUCINICH AND GRAVEL FOR THEIR OPPOSITON AGAINST THE WAR; EDWARDS FOR SPEAKING OUT AGAIINST CORPORATE AMERICA; RON PAUL FOR HIS OPPOSITION TO THE WAR. HOWEVER, THEY ARE STILL ALL PART OF THE CAPITALISTIC SYSTEM.

The Douginator: You are forced to go quail hunting with Dick Cheney...what do you do?

MOORE:  SHOOT HIM!!!! HOW IS THAT FOR HUMOR!!!!!

The Douginator: What is the weirdest thing to happen to you on the campaign trail?

MOORE:   THE POLICE IN VERMONT TRIED TO ARREST ME FOR PRACTICING DEMOCRACY WHILE THE MAJOR PARTY CANDIDATES NEXT DOOR IN NEW HAMPSHIRE ARE MOSTLY BUYING THEIR CAMPAIGNS AND ELECTIONS WITH MULTIMILLION DOLLARS OF PERSONAL WEALTH.

The Douginator: In one word, what is your campaign all about?

MOORE:PRESERVING AND PROMOTING THE PERFECT LIFE. PRESERVING IDEALS, PRINCIPLES, EQUALITY, ACCOUNTABILITY, FAIRNESS, EQUITY, ETC.
